My Story
I am a Benjamin Opiyo. I am a global citizen.
I was born in a rural hospital in Muhoroni, the western part of Kenya. Though I was destined to study and practise Law - by virtue of being comfortable in argumentation and absorbing books - I earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the Multimedia University of Kenya.
After stints in TV production and writing, I left for Australia to pursue a Master of Communication degree at the University of South Australia (UniSA).
At UniSA, I served on the University Council (Board), the Student Representative Board and the UniSA Creative Academic Unit Board - a sub-committee of the UniSA Council.
I write, give speeches, and serve in community organisations.
I am curious about the international system - how foreign policies affect ordinary people, especially those from the Global South, and the role of Communications in the engagement between states.
